I can't help but notice so many people in here automatically using parties and raves interchangeably. Maybe I'm just slow or something, but I never thought of raves when I first read about this place. Am I the only one and was that really part of the purpose of this place, or what?

Re: parties = raves?
Sun, October 31, 2004 - 5:22 AMha ha ha!!! I know what you mean, and I'm moderating this things. it's funny. I suppose party can be any number of things depending on who's defining it.
Party: drugs and alcohol and everyone acting like zombies
Party: at least 3 kegs, loud obnoxious frat boys and girls in hoochie pants pretending they aren't as stupid as they look
Party: Hard drugs and a lot of unconsented sex. PnP:: Party and Play
Party: a bunch of 13 year olds, lots of drugs, pants that are 10 sizes too big, and look like their floating around, and then a few of the haters around to talk them into their place, or give them rufies to make them shut up.
Party: A bunch of old people dressed up in evening gowns and tuxes who stand around acting pretentious without the slightest clue of what is going on in the world...meanwhile their kids are out with their E collections at some "party" pissing off all the people in this tribe.
but really, when I think of a party person I hate, I think of the two guys in the tribe picture, the dumbass fratty type. But through the intellectual prowess of this tribe, I've come to realize that I hate much more than just the fratty type of party people. -

Re: parties = raves?
Sun, October 31, 2004 - 8:34 AMWell, I think of Party People as people who live to party. Many ravers are like that. There is an existential angst to many of these folks--they can't think of anything better to do, either because they are too stupid or too messed up to function doing anything else.
To be fair, there are folks who party all the time and have a job, a family, kids, etc. However, they tend to be drug users and alcoholics. They neglect their family and/or work but get away with it because SHOCK! they're are supported by a network of nitwits.
Then, there are the people who claim they hate parties but go to them all the time. They're just as pathetic as they go to a party not looking for anything but trouble. In truth, they actually find the party stimulating as well. They're fooling themselves and no one else about what they're all about. They like to be at parties too, just they don't know how to actually relate to other folks appropriately (as defined in the broad sense of decent human interaction).
Did I miss anyone? Oh yeah, then there are people like myself who occassionally go to a party and never get anything positive out of it. Why that is, I'm not sure. However, we always whine that "nobody talked to me", "all the food was gone", "the music was stupid", "the beer was rancid", "couldn't find the place", "I wasn't feeling on", "I felt uncomfortable because I didn't know anyone except the host--who disappeared before I arrived", "my ex was there with her two boyfriends", "I wish I'd brought a *good* wine", "I got sick again from eating the crusty dip", "my pie got squashed on the way over" etc. -

Re: parties = raves?
Sun, October 31, 2004 - 9:26 AMOkay, I admit that I was a little overboard there. I've had fun at parties and I've had nice experiences--just remembering the bad times I guess. Sorry.

Re: parties = raves?
Sun, October 31, 2004 - 9:39 AMWow, sounds like you should ban yourself from all parties for the rest of your life! That can be as bad or worse than all of the above mentioned people... At least they have the sense to be content with the choices they've made!
